LUJÁN + SICILIA is a retro modern lighting design company. It was founded in 2001 by two partners,
Francisco Luján and Jaime Sicilia. LUJÁN + SICILIA make a unique team in many ways. They quit their previous careers to do this, and they do not come from the conventional designer's background. The impulse to create these lighting collections comes from their fascination with the mysterious existence of everyday objects. Like many from their generation, they are haunted by the ghosts of the consumer goods from the 1970s which populated their childhoods. For them, it was a logical step to ritualize the 60s and 70s, and particularly the so-called modern design ,which back then was considered the epitome of quality and good taste. To ritualize, to retrieve and to retake are only points of departure towards something new. They are interested in probing the texture of light in new materials. LUJÁN + SICILIA want to investigate chiaroscuro in geometric forms and patterns.They want to make functional lighting, which to them means lighting full of spirit, enigma, charm, lighting with a touch of nostalgia and of humor, too.
